We have been here several times and it's very close to our home. Our absolute favorite is the tray pizza! I'm a fan of the sweet sauce and this pizza doesn't need toppings. We tried ones with mushrooms, but wasn't a fan because they are canned. It took away from the taste of this pie, so we order it plain. It's nice and thick, but not as thick as a Sicilian pie at a regular pizza place. We've also had several pasta dishes and it's always fresh tasting. The only thing we didn't love was the regular thin pie. I just think we aren't thin pizza lovers. All in all its a great local spot and the service is always good. Highly recommend!

So disappointed in what has happened to their once great pizza. It is just a greasy mess, the sauce which is very different from others is Not the same. The pie is just NOT good. It is sad after all these yrs this will be my memory of their once iconic pie.

Hands down the best pizza I've eaten in the Tristate and I'm a junky. Crisp crust sweet sauce good cheese. ..what more can you ask for, other than the hand crumbled sausage if u are in the mood for a carnivorous treat...meatballs are an absolute must try..people drive in droves here and for good reason. ..haven't had one ny slice that can beat it yet...

Sweet sauce pizza and beer, what could be better? Always a affordable good time for the family. This place has withstood the test of time with their uniquely flavored sweet sauce pizza for years. Some may feel its too sweet, but I find it pleasantly delectable. Thin slightly crusted beneath layered anchovies, grilled onions and a splash or parmesan cheese, crushed red peppers, garlic and oregano. Now that's a pie, baby. There's a semi dingy bar with happy hour specials. Nothing extravagant, your typical draft and shot speakeasy. I've sampled some of the other Italian dishes and always found them to my liking, no not great, but you won't be disappointed either. This is one of those 3.5 star establishments, definitely worthy of a pop in for a casual bite.

What happened? Went there with my family and was throughly disappointed. We ordered a half tray of pizza and it was a a thick crust without that thin Scortino pizza I came to expect. Never in my decades of eating there pies have we had this happen. We were told that the half trays are usually thicker then the round pies. What? They brought a round pie to us and it was just not the same. Not crusty but chewy. Who was making the pizzas tonight. We're they new? My son ordered calamari and it was below average. My youngest son ordered a cheese burger. Fresh out of the freezer. For my son to complain about a cheese burger then you have problems. Our waitress was very sweet but was missing in action most the the night. We may not come back. So Sad.

Not sure if changed ownership but definitely not the same pizza Been getting take out for over 8 years but today took one back and 2nd no better Burnt in the edges and sloppy raw in the middle. Story is they precook and add toppings and sauce when get order. Faster but not what we came for. So miss my Scortinos pizza

So I remember Sciortino's from when it was in Perth Amboy. Sadly ever since their move the pizza has been entirely the same. Nevertheless the pizza is still good. The sauce has the same sweetness that I remember. Thin crust with a nice char on the bottom of the pie. All in all still good. Way different than an ordinary everyday pizza which is why I still come back. I just miss the old location.

He food and the service were excellent. The pizza was light but dripping with toppings! Excellent for groups and plan on going back soon! My only complaint would probably be decor. It would be nice to update a few areas like the restrooms.

After birding at Raritan Waterview Park, my son and I were starving and in need of fortification. We drove into South Amboy and found the Landmark Inn. Unfortunately, their kitchen was under renovation. So, we found Sciortino's. Smart move. We took seats next to the bar. Started off with some really tasty fried calamari. Not rubbery at all. It was a very large portion which defeated us. But it was ok because we had pizza to eat. Large pie, half plain, half sausage. Much has been written about this thin crust, brick oven pie. Yes, the sauce is sweet. Yes, a knife and fork is helpful for the first slice or two. Did not bother us one bit! The pie was delicious. To our palettes, it was much better than Sun Tavern. Blue Moon with the obligatory orange slice was a welcomed accompaniment to the meal. As I have indicated in prior reviews, my wife appreciates a good to go order. So, I brought home Penne with Broccoli Rabe with homemade sausage. The sausage was in large chunks as opposed to the crumbled stuff on the pizza. I had a bite or two and was very impressed. Whoever is making the sausage really knows what they are doing. In a summer filled with great local discoveries, we were happy to add another spot to the list. We will be back soon.

Food was decent, atmosphere was ok, large selection of drinks, very nice staff. I rated low to get attention from management because the bar tender was nice enough to give me the tv remote... But the TV remote was horribly dirty... Covered in food and who knows what else. This I mind because I was touching it, by also because this is what the staff touches before/after touching your drinks and food. Simply taking a disinfectant wipe to it for 5 seconds would make a world of difference and this kind of neglect makes me question what more is being neglected behind the scenes.

I have been wanting to go to this place for the past year or so and can't wait to go back! I sat in the bar area on a sunday night and Walter (our bartender ) was awesome! We ordered the large pie with the works and it was just pure amazingness! If you have been there already and haven't ordered the pizza, make sure you do so on your next visit. The table behind us, ordered 2 to go :) Ps- $2.25 miller lites and $4 for any other beer on tap... can't beat that. (I posted a picture when I was there, check it out! )

Went for lunch today with my husband. We waited for a few minutes to be seated. There was no one to greet us when we entered. Decor is comfortable....booths or tables. Clean. Waitress was helpful as it was our first time. I wanted to try their 1/2 tray which is their Sicilian style pie. Hubby wanted round so we went with a round large sausage and pepperoni. Pizza came out quickly. We were surprised by size. It appeared to be smaller than an average small pizza. It looked delicious. I had heard complaints about how sweet the sauce was. As a matter of fact there was a table there complaining about it. I am from New York and certainly know a good slice of pizza. This is good pizza.....it's great pizza. The flavor of the crust was amazing. The toppings were fresh and well done. The sauce was perfection. I dont get why people say its too sweet. The only complaint I had is that the pizza was somewhat too well done but not burnt....hubby enjoyed that aspect. I was going to order a take home pizza and calmari but the waitress was not easy to get a hold of....so we decided against it. She seemed to be preoccupied with a child that was present. Thus the reason for only 4 stars. I have definitely found our new pizza spot.

If you like thin crust pizza, this is the place for you. It is absolutely great. Haven't had much of anything else there but that's only because the pizza is so good.

Came here one evening with my boyfriend since he kept saying they have the best triangle pizza. I didn't believe him until I tried it. OH MANNNN. The pizza was bomb & delicious. The pizza sauce here is a bit sweeter and it is thinner compared to regular pizza you would get somewhere else. But I love it regardless. And you can't beat the price either $12 for a large pizza. Service here is meh. The waiter took our order and then left, a waitress brought out our pizza meanwhile our waiter was partially tipsy off of whatever he was drinking and talking to the table behind us. Drinking while working is unacceptable. Hopefully i wouldn't have to deal with that again. extremely disappointed with the service but the food is great ! Would of been 5 stars though.

  • Lisa M.

I love their pizza! The sweet tomato sauce is amazing. I always start with a Cesar salad and everything is always consistent great quality. And their desserts always hit the spot! Try the tortoni (sp?) ask for melissa! She is amazingly sweet and attentive.

  • Jonathan R.

I don't understand the big deal about this place. Their pizza is soggy, greasy, and the sweet sauce is awful.

    (1)
  • Oscar B.

I heard a lot about the Pizza, so when I was in the neighborhood, I stopped in and had a pie. The pie was a basic cheese pie, a large. Firstly to me a large pie is a 16" pie, not a 14" like they served. This has to be one of the worst pies I have ever had. The sauce was very sweet and plentiful and the crust was thin and somewhat soggy. I had a slice, my friend had a slice and we took the rest home. At home my wife had a slice, none of us liked the pie. we ended up throwing it away. The problem with something like this is that it is subjective, i.e. some people may like sweet pies and love this, some may not. We did not.

Really torn between 3 and 4 stars here. I'm a real pizza snob. I know great pizza. As a general rule, if you agree with me on pizza, it is a sign of high intelligence. You are clearly one of us, the chosen few; those who will go on to one day rule the universe on a mission to eradicate bad pizza everywhere. I knew going into Sciortino's that it was all going to come down to the sauce. I read the reviews, both on Yelp and everywhere else. The one thing no one seems to disagree with is this: the sauce is sweet. Many say that's what makes the pizza special. Others say the sweet sauce is what prevents them from giving Sciortino's a higher rating. I fall into the latter camp. The pizza is good, no doubt. Very fresh, tasty ingredients. We ordered a large pie, half plain, half pepperoni, extra crispy. It arrived minutes later at the table, piping hot. Before I even pulled the first slice, I was surprised to see just how much sauce the pie had ladled on. It was a bubbling sea of pizza soup. But good god it looked delicious and I just had to lay into it immediately. It's not as thin a crust as I had expected, though it's still on the thinner side compared to many pizzerias. But unfortunately it could not support the weight of the ingredients and the sauciness of the sauce, making it knife and fork pizza for the first few bites. (Good pizza should never require a knife and fork.) As it cooled though, the pie started firming up, enabling us to ditch the knife and fork and eat it like good pizza is meant to be eaten -- with our hands. I knew pretty much after the first bite -- the sauce is indeed too sweet for my taste. I didn't want to, but I had to give it a few shakes of salt and extra parm to bring the flavor proportions to where I like them. But after doing that, everything fell into place and I ate almost half the pie. And because we ordered it extra crispy, parts of the crust were charred along the edges, which I love. (And they use really good dough, which is a huge plus.) I will definitely be back, though I might order a little differently next time. Some have suggested that I try the pan pizza or the grandma pie. I'm thinking maybe a white pie with garlic and basil. Or maybe a vodka pie. On a side note, I never realized just how close South Amboy is to East Brunswick. Other than making out with a girl from Sayreville War Memorial back in 1988, I have had very little ties to Sayreville and the surrounding areas my whole life. Maybe there's more to explore out this way?

Love the pie made on a baking sheet, it delicious! Great Bar as well! Really good beer selection and tons more to eat besides pizza!

Two pizzas- one extra cheese and one pepperoni. Got charged $11 for the toppings. Never again.

  • Denamarie K.

We've been getting pizza from here since they were 3 blocks away from my grandmothers house in Perth Amboy. Their sausage pizza is my absolute favorite. The tomato sauce is sweet which is perfect. (They do not use the pizza sauce for their other dishes) I love when the sauce is on the crust and burns on while cooking makes the crust heavenly. One thing for those who love to just pick up a slice and go...... The toppings weigh the pizza down. Doesn't bother me one bit but just letting you know. This place has been in a lot of good family memories and hopefully will continue to be for myself and my children.

I love Sciortino's! I've been a fan since they were originally located in Perth Amboy. Though I've moved out of state I always make it a point to stop here when I'm in New Jersey. The pizza is amazing, but the mozzarella sticks are to die for!

    (5)
  • Jay V.

Favorite pizza restaurant in nj! Good customer service all the time. I always order their half tray! A little bit more pricey but it's the way to go. Been dieting a lot but this will be my cheat meal!

I have eaten here many times. The food is great but the owners should be present the place is filled with high school kids as waiters/waitresses. This time was the worst, the waiter dropped off our food...never came back to even ask if we needed anything. We grabbed a busboy to ask for bread...never got it...grabbed the waiter who gave us cold bread...still NOT even asking us if we needed a drink. Lastly, we asked for the check and low and behold the waiter stood over us waiting for us to pay.... shame on you Sciortino's...

  • Nobel V.

I went down here to celebrate my brother's birthday with my family, as he recommended the place to us, and I was not disappointed! We started off getting mozzarella sticks and fried calamari as appetizers. Mozzarella sticks were average, but the fried calamari was delicious. The calamari was crispy and flavorful, just the way I like it. In general, I personally like the way Italians make their fried calamari, and Sciortino's does it right! Now for the pizza; it is unique in the fact that the sauce has a sweet kick to it. The thin crust makes it crispy, which is the way I like my pizza. I tasted more of the sweet kick in the normal pie. The other pie we got was the cheese steak pie, which was great in it's own right, but I would rather get the regular pie with normal toppings so I could try some unconventional pizza with "sweetness". Just note, you can order a pie with EXTRA sauce, or make it EXTRA crispy. So if you like the uniqueness, go for it! As for the atmosphere, it has a simple yet "Italian" ambiance to it. Nothing special about the tables and such, but the decor does make you feel like you are in an Italian restaurant!

  • Katie D.

Terribly sad, soggy pizza that fell apart as you ate it and tasted liked jarred sauce. "Buffalo" wings tasted only like grease. Didnt offer any take out drinks, which would be fine if this wasnt a pizzeria/bar/restaurant combo. Also, was told it would be ready in 30 minutes, and we waited for an hour and 15 minutes. Which is apparently due to some employees not showing up, but should have been compensated in some way ( coupons or at least a friendly smile!)

Try their meatball pie. I drive 45 minutes for it & it's worth it every time

Thursday, 8/14/2014 6 pm - sat at the bar - Carton beer on tap as well as another micro, bud/miller lite on sale, but no other happy hour prices. We started with mussels marinara - very good :) Then had a large pie (half sausage, half onion) and we really enjoyed it ! As mentioned here, their sauce is a sweet version-ed sauce, but very good, probably because its a bit different (in a good way). Ambiance is typical older bar ... restroom was refurbished and clean though We will be back for mid week pizza :)

Interesting take on a sicilian pie, but I liked it.

This place is "interesting". The pizza was great. Amazing sauce, good prices, but there were a few things about this place that were just odd.. For one, I ordered a glass of wine. It came after our food. Second, even though this places tries to give off a "classy" vibe, you get PAPER plates. My wine and paper plate looks so nice together lol... And lastly, our waitresses (god knows how many there were) was high on god knows what. She was loopy, her eyes were shutting and you could barely understand her. Fun times...and good pizza

Appetizers were good. Tried the raved about coal oven pizza but was highly disappointed. My own fault for not reading the reviews before hand. Everyone on here hit the money on the head with the words "Sweet Sauce." I like a nice tomato taste not too acidic which is why they add a pinch of sugar but not the whole barrel of sugar. The pizza was thin but got very soggy quickly and flopped. The pizza had a lot of sauce which usually I wouldn't mind except I wasn't a fan of the sauce. I ordered garlic pizza and couldn't taste the garlic from all the sweet sauce. Needless to say I took the rest of the pizza home and took another helpers advice to add salt and other condiments. Let's hope the left over pizza is better tomorrow.

  • Gennaro C.

Friends raved about it so we went in for a Pizza and a pitcher of beer. Service and the beer were great! Pizza was a little strange to me with the sweet sauce, as I never had it before. We ordered a half pepperroni and half sausage pie. Pitcher of Blue Moon Beer.

    (3)
  • John M.

We stopped in here. People we know rave about it. My wife and I got a large sausage pizza. The bottom was burnt. The pie was soggy. The sausage was awful. This is without a doubt the worse pizza I ever had in NJ.I was looking at the pictures of pizza posted here and some look burnt to me. Am I missing something? I will stick to Federrici's.

  • Danielle L.

Not a fan of the pizza! It's too sweet! Rumored to be the sister restaurant to Coffaros in South River, but I'm not a fan there either... What ever happened to normal, delicious pizza!

  • Julia S.

Great place to grab a beer and have their pizza with the works! Service can be a little slow but I don't mind when in good company.

    (4)
  • Larry G.

Went there with a group. The food was ok but the dish had to be returned because it was cold. I had also ordered a vodka rocks and when i got the check i noticed that there was a charge for 'rocks' under the drink order. I was told that as opposed to a shot, a drink on the rocks contained more alcohol and that was the way the system handled it. Needless to say not returning.

Wow! Who knew I only had to travel to South Amboy to get a Great brick oven pizza! This is a as great as the pizzeria I go to in Hoboken called Grimaldis! We did a local pickup there! The staff was very nice and welcoming as we entered. They actually knew my brother in law when we got there, since he became a regular there. When my brother in law called the box of pizza "heaven in a box" he wasnt joking! Once I opened the box I actually heard angels singing! I said to myself, where is that sound coming from? ;) Now, taking the first slice of "the works" pizza, you soon realize this isnt just any pizza. This is something special. The tomato sauce has a slight sweet taste to it. The red peppers and homemade sweet italian sausage complements the slight burnt crust from the brick oven. The taste is exhilirating! My first slice of the garlic pizza was amazing. The fresh baked garlic was perfect! It still has the same sweet tomato sauce taste! I cant wait to go back here in South Amboy so I can try another topping. Maybe order "the works" again, as well as "garlic topping with pepperoni". See you in a few weeks Sciortino!

  • NotTelling P.

2.5 stars After reading the reviews I was interested to see which side I would take on the deliciously sweet/too sweet pizza debate. We ordered a pie with sausage, pepperoni and extra cheese, so I couldn't get a good taste of just the sauce. The pizza was not great or bad, it was OK, perfect with a few beers. Just like the reviews said: the pizza was too flimsy to eat with your hands. I don't mind using a knife and fork, but it doesn't work when the knife is not sharp enough and the paper plates are too flimsy. I might come back if I'm in the neighborhood, but parking was a pain.

  • Erin G.

Best Pizza! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I could probably eat a whole pie on my own. My husband calls it sugar pizza because the sauce is a little sweet but that is what makes it so good. My mouth is watering just thinking about it right now. I've been going there for several years now and have no intention on stopping,

    (5)
  • E R.

From Perth Amboy and ate their pies as a kid. South Amboy is better than Perth Amboy although i can't figure out why. In a pinch I will go to Amboy. If I wanna sit down south Amboy all the way. Enjoy the thin crust well done pies with a sweet sauce definitely get half sausage and try the works that's always a great pie. Wish they used plates the paper plates just doesn't cut it for me. But when the pizza is this good I don't care.

    (5)
  • Jeff W.

A large & lively Bar in the front, Family restaurant in the back, whether or not you'll like the pizza seem to be up for debate depending on if you like your sauce sweet or not. I would visit more often, but they serve their pizza with the cheapest paper plates, I'm like WTH your a restaurant, Not a slice stand on the boardwalk, Give me a Real Plate!

  • Marc S.

Best pizza around gotta get the half trays! There very good i don't know what they put in there sauce but it's the best I've ever had'

  • Kathy M.

Have been eating there for years now...Love love love the thin crust on the pizza along with the sauce. Sometimes I eat the burnt crust and other times not.

    (5)
  • Fred S.

My wife loves this pizza. Me, not so much. Too sweet for my taste. Here's one thing I don't get. This place is located in South Amboy, but only delivers to Perth Amboy?

    (4)
  • Geo K.

It's more like 3.5/3.75 stars to me but: In a town that has countless pizza places and bars that serve a pretty good bar pie this place does well for itself. Although its not the same as its Perth Amboy location hints of the original still are there in the tray pie. The sausage tray pie is very good and it's a bit on the sweet side so the sauce is more neutral vs acidic like. I never get anything else so it wouldn't be fair to review anything else on the menu.

    (4)
  • Erin C.

There is an identity crisis going on inside the restaurant. Is it a Seafood? Is it Italian? I wish I could redecorate and make it look like Little Italy in Wildwood, NJ. It would be soooo much better. In reference to the food: Calamari was a 9 Pasta was an 8 Pizza 7 Caesar Salad 10! It's a great Italian restaurant that just needs (a lot) of interior love. If you close your eyes and eat, the food should taste much better! Another benefit is the fact that they have a bar. So you can celebrate your birthday with a dinner and then head to the front and have drinks.

    (3)
  • Sleep R.

I have only heard praise for their pizza so we took the drive down to try it out. We asked for the pie to be well done and it came out undercooked and flimsy. Maybe it was an off day. I'll give them, another try when in the area.

    (2)
  • Eric B.

I've lived in the area since I was born, always passed by Sciortino's, friends have told me to go, and yet I have never been till recently. Boy have I been missing out. I had a pie with sausage (awesome homemade sweet sausage), mushrooms, and basil. Let me just say I've been to some amazing pizza joints in NYC but this pie was right up there with them if not better. I highly recommend everyone to come here and order a pizza, you won't be disappointed.

  • Dan L.

A few of us got the sampler, chicken francaise, pizza, and some more. Shrimp in the poppers were cold like they were frozen then heated. Very small portion of chicken without pasta or bread and was just with some broccoli and cherry tomatoes. Didn't have salad dressings also. Just balsamic and Caesar. Slightly burnt crust also. Food was ok, not bad enough to send back but not impressed for that price. Waitress was great tho.

  • Lala A.

Yes, the sauce is sweet. Thats what makes it special. Thin crust. Burnt on the bottom (in a good way) but soggy on top depending how many toppings you get. Love this stuff. Cheese is tasty. Give it a try. You'll either love the sauce or hate it. Street parking only. I only know one person who dislikes this pizza, so chances are you'll be a fan.

    (5)
  • Daria K.

Warm, family style, great service, and wonderful food. I WISH New York pizza tasted like this. I've been having their pizza since I was little (back in their old location before they moved) and am glad to say it hasn't changed. All the food is good, but the pizza is the best pizza I have ever had in my entire life. Their sweet sauce makes me feel at home, it's that wonderful feeling of what happens when food is made with love and made to taste great. I crave it all the time..be careful, you might get addicted.

I remember this place from when it was located in Perth Amboy. Pizza was much better then. Not an enjoyable experience.

Someone I work with told me about this place and since it was close to where we live, my wife and I gave it a try. I have to agree with Kristen M. I don't get it either. It is definitely some of the worst pizza I've ever had! The sauce is ridiculously sweet and the crust wasn't good either. If you're a pizza lover like we are, this is NOT the place for you. If you want a delicious regular pizza try the Linwood Inn in Linden. It has a wonderful sauce and the crust is crispy and delicious. The Grandma pie or the fresh mozzarella pie at Krispy Pizza in Old Bridge is also very good if you prefer that kind of cheese over the typical kind used at most pizzerias. Ask for extra basil (if you like that herb). For brick oven style, Brooklyn Brick Oven in Hackensack and Edgewater or Grimaldi's in Hoboken are both excellent. If you're going into the city, Patsy's is also wonderful. For thin crust nobody beats Pete & Elda's in Neptune, but ask for it to be made crispy. They also have the BEST fried calamari we've found. It's always very light and tender with your choice of mild, medium or hot sauce. Federicci's in Freehold makes a good thin crust pizza as well, but they bug the crap out of me by giving you a tiny glass of iced tea, then charging you for a refill!!! Get with it. Give me a bigger glass or at least one free refill. I just don't like place that nickel and dime you. As Kristen M. said, this place has many fans. It still must be a popular place since it's been around for quite awhile. Obviously some people like their pizza this way. Since I worked in a pizzeria year ago I know they add some sugar when making the sauce, but these guys have gone way overboard! Think catsup sweet! Maybe the other food is decent, but I would not recommend this place for pizza. I think just about any mom & pop pizzeria in Jersey would be a better choice. You'll see others raving about their pizza, so obviously pizza is a very subjective food. We don't care for it, but if you feel the need, give it a try for yourself. Then see who you agree with and perhaps write your own review.

Delicious pizza! Good service! Crappy soda fountain drinks though=( however the pizza is so great it makes up for the nasty soda. I would eat here every night of the week!

  • Kristen M.

I just don't get it. WHY do so many people love this place? I have friends who order from here often and swear by it, but I just do not like this pizza. It's so sweet! It's some of the worst pizza I've ever had. That being said, it has many fans. If you like your pizza to taste like a bowl of sugar fell in the sauce, this is for you.

    (2)
  • Michele S.

Better than average pizza but expensive as far as pizza goes. Sauce is a little on the sweet side.

    (3)
  • Eric R.

This is by far the best pizza place in Middlesex, and one of the best in all of NJ. Quality product leads to great food. Great sauce, great pies, great sandwiches on great bread. Most of all the sauce is sublime. It's funny that anyone would actually bring up ambiance and service to me. It is a pizza place with a bar. It's clean and that's all you could ask for. There are little Italian relics and pictures. The service is is exactly as I would expect in a neighborhood Italian pizza joint. It's totally adequate concidering these high school girls get tipped on pizza. I'm not saying service and decor don't matter, but you dont go to Harbor Light for those things. You go there for fantastic pizza and sandwiches.

    (5)
  • Love Fish L.

Perhaps the best pizza I ve ever had. I had it with eggplant, which was actually fresh baked. Very good. Tried some off the Italian dishes, and was not impressed. When you come here, you come for pizza.

    (5)
  • Rob D.

I don't know what all the hype is about. The pizza sucks in my opinion. Possibly the worst I've ever had. Anytime I've ordered it, it's been burnt and greasy as hell. The dinners I've ordered are usually bland and lack any flavor(chicken francaise comes to mind). The BEST thing I've ever had from here is the pork sandwich and a salad.

I enjoy coming here with my family. They have delicious sauce! Calamari is great! Their meatball square pie is fantastic. My only complaint is its very expensive for pizza! Oh and stay away on a holiday like mothers/fathers day always busy and service/meal aren't always as good as a weeknight.

This pizza is bomb! Love coming here!! The pizza is so good i literally feign for it. Im only giving them 4 stars thought because i have to ASK for bread and butter before my meal. Never had to wait to be seated, never took long for food to come out. Ive only had the pizza from here so i cant comment on anything else.

Some of the best thin crust pizza I've ever had! The red birch beer on tap makes a great accompaniment if your now in the mood for beer, wine or other alcoholic beverage. It can get quite busy so be prepared for a possible wait.

    * Still one of the best thin crust pizzas we've ever enjoyed...the fresh sausage and sauce is incredible, but I must sadly admit that the rest of their menu is lacking and pales in comparison to their pizza. Go for the pizza, but for entrees I'd keep looking....although i hear they're bringing in some new talent to update their menu. For now, however, I can say it's one of the finest tasting thin crust pies I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The one in Perth Amboy is a smaller version, with only a few tables, but the oven and recipe are surely shared, for it's equally as impressive. Some nights I even think the one in Perth Amboy is better...but that may due to my missing the "good ol' days" when it was in its original Amboy site. It's clear from reading the variety of reviews that this pizza is not for everyone's taste. Remember taste is very subjective, and for us we enjoy the contrast of the sweet sauce coupled with more spicy toppings. Even the sausage which leans towards a certain sweetness still goes extremely well with the sauce and with pepperoni thrown in results in an incredible blending of flavors. As for service we've been fortunate to always receive excellent service and despite it being staffed by mainly teens and tweeners who often provide the staffing at most family operated pizza spots we've always enjoyed courteous and prompt service. Whether we are seated at a bar-table or in the dining area we have always been greeted and delivered drinks quickly while waiting for the pizza to be prepared. I have tried the other menu items and they still fail to impress, for despite the pricing the food itself is lacking in flavor and often poorly prepared and presented. It continues to be a goto destination for us when we are craving a thin-crust pie and missing the sweet sauce that some reviewers do not enjoy. As for the pie being soggy I disagree, for it's simply an extremely thin crust that can be overwhelmed by certain toppings. Unlike traditional crust it's better enjoyed with a knife and fork...there I said it...you're going to struggle to keep the slice intact if you're lifting it off of the plate depending on how high they've topped your pie. I'll make the sacrifice and do the unholy act of using utensils from time to time to enjoy their thin-crust pie. All I can say is to judge for yourself, and then yelp about it all you want...good or bad...it's PIZZA, the most perfect food in the world. Update: the Sciortinos in Perth Amboy now delivers!!! I may need to remove a wall to leave my home one day, but I'm so happy they're offering delivery service. They also create some of the most delicious Canoli i've ever enjoyed. Not too sweet, just right...it's confection-perfection, with a shell that's almost as tasty as the filling. Here's wishing them great success where, or close to where they started....and that the Harbor Lights location continues to offer seating for larger parties to enjoy one of the best pizza's you'll find.

Great pizza ! Decent prices. Nice quiet place before the dinner rush to enjoy a quick bite and a couple pints.

The tray pizza is really good. I like the sweet sauce. Great place for a pizza and a bottle of red wine.

Let me clarify my star rating: I am a fan of the pizza, no hesitation there. Their sauce is some of the best I've ever had. So sweet and just the right thickness. The rest of their food is questionable. Flavorless entrees such as the Chicken Romano and even the ravioli which they drench in cheese for an extra $1.00 in hopes that you won't notice its blandness. The Chicken Caesar salad was a nice size, but the chicken was tough. Stick to the pizza here and be aware that though they try hard, the waiters and hostess are quite young and have very little training in the area of genuine customer service. The manager (I'm assuming that's what he is) is lovely and visible, but his staff is sloppy, chatty out on the dining room floor, and lack personality overall.

Tried Sciortino's pizza again the other day because my family wanted it. There was a change in the taste, not quite as sweet but the crust was so thin you couldn't pick up the slices without losing most of the topping. Don't know if they spread it too thinly or what but it's difficult to eat and actually soggy making it even more difficult to pick up and try to eat without making a mess including on yourself. The prices have gone up and the quality declined since I had been there a few months ago. Gave it a go but I'll return to real Italian pizza. Sorry.

The pizza here is amazing as well as the cheese steak and chicken parm..which is all I have had from their so far. I have only taken out so I can't tell what the service is like in there but we almost always get our meal right away while picking up. The only thing I don't care for is the fries. Lacking taste and a little too soggy.

I love the pizza here!!! They have a sweet sauce which not everyone loves but it is a perfect combination with their crust and cheese! Plus you can get a pint with your pizza, best combo ever. I've had the calamari which is super good. And last time I went my bf wanted chicken parm pizza they made it special for us with breaded chicken and it was banging, makes me wanna go back and get a chicken cutlet.

Ah i know my family will disagree with this one, honestly.. the pizza wasn't bad, it just doesn't happen to be the kind of pizza i like. If you like crispy pizza, definitely go somewhere else. It is very soft here. Don't get me wrong, its not bad but if you like crunchy like i do, you won't enjoy every bite. The sauce, i think, is what gets people here because its fantastic! Its got a sweet kick to it. Something to try out if you aren't picky like me..

I've passed this place a hundred times, and thought it was just a bar that served pizza. Man, was I wrong. It's the total opposite. Now I realize that it's a pizzeria that serves beer! I went in around 5pm and asked the friendly staff for a take-out pizza with The Works. Literally 10 minutes later, a guy comes out of the kitchen with this white box with no pictures or logos, just a plain white cardboard pizza box. I was almost fooled. I thought I was about to eat an average pizza, but when I got my first whiff of what was inside, I was hooked! The only thing I heard about this place was the crazy good, sweet sauce of the pizza. These critics know what they're talking about! Because I could actually smell the sweet sauce through the box, and I could just tell it was gonna be something different. It seemed like every ingredient on the pizza went perfectly together like a jigsaw puzzle. The sweet Italian sausage, peppers, mushrooms, and onions all complemented the sweet sauce. The wifey and I actually ate the slices while standing up at home. Yeah, we couldn't even sit down; that's how excited we were! The crust was nice and crunchy. I was never a big fan of thin crust, but I loved this so much that I'll start eating it from now on whenever I get the chance. The only slightest negative I could mention was that the center of the pie got a lil soggy from the mountain of toppings. Maybe we wouldn't have had this problem if we ordered a plain pie or just one or two toppings. All good, at least we know they're generous! Can't wait to try this "Heaven in a Box" again! p.s. I'm salivating already while writing this review.. lol

I have been going to sciortinos for over 30 years (including the old perth amboy location, heck i have a 'save sciortinos' t-shirt), my parents went there when they were kids, all told its probably about 50 years of sciortinos. I cant say it enough, this is hands down the best pizza I have ever had. anywhere. period. I've brought lots of nay-saying friends who insist their own favorite place is better. not one of them has left without changing their mind. im getting hungry just thinking about it.

I have been eating their "tomato pies" for 60 years! Sausage pie is my favorite. Can't wait til they franchise!

This place is awesome, we've since had chicken parm, and a cheeseseak sammich everything has been absolutely delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the service has been prompt.

Wow! This is the best pizza I have ever tasted. The sauce is so sweet and yummy and the thin crust melts in your mouth. I cant comment on the other menu items because I've only had the pizza... One word of caution, when the pies come out, they are HOT! If you have the will power, let them cool for five minutes and the taste will be even better.

Meatball pizza today... best I've ever had. I ilke the regular round pizzas over the tray pizzas. I prefer the thinner crust. This is going to be a go-to spot for lunch from now on.

OH MY GOD, best coal oven thin crust pizza EVER. I'm serious. I'm a NJ native and I know my pizza :) My husband introduced me to Sciortinos a while ago having gone to the original location as a kid many times. Their crust is thin and perfect-and their sauce is sweet and tangy (my favorite). I've had a regular pie there and one with homemade sausage (to die for!). I haven't had this in a while but I'm really thinking I need to make a trip asap!

I have known this place since it was in Perth Amboy when my ex-laws turned me on to their pies. It is the best, and almost as good as what I could get in New Haven. Thin crust, burt, and a great sauce where you dont need many toppings. These days, I live in Texas, and there is nothing here even close, where when I go into a place here, I try to tell them how I want it, and they just dont get it. Thgis place goes into my pizza hall of fame!

Yeah the pizza is good. Very unique pie, but everything else on the menu is sub-par in my opinion.

I travel around NJ looking for the best pizza and sciortino's has surpassed them all! I really don't want to order from anywhere else. I have even tried to duplicate their sweet sauce and can not. They crisp their crust so nicely too. My advice to anyone that is taking out the pizza, leave minimum 30 minutes or else you will sit and wait. If you drink, there is a decent bar there as well. Enjoy

If you are in search for the perfect pizza, look no further. I grew up in Woodbridge and I've been eating Sciortino's pizza for years, back when they were in Perth Amboy. They have a great sweet sauce for their pizzas. Apparently, it's a secret recipe. Even though they went from a coal fired oven to a brick gas oven, the taste remain the same. I work in North Jersey and live in Toms River now and my wife will ask me from time to time to pick up a pie to bring home.

I lived in South Amboy for 2 years and Sciortino's was one of my favorite spots to get pizza. The sauce is amazing and it reminds me a little of tomato soup! I only wish the bottom was a little bit crispier! Either way, great place...I was in town this past weekend and had lunch there. So good!

The pizza here is good - there is a certain sweetness to the sauce. I've gotten different pizzas when I was here - cheese, mushroom, sausage, always good and not overpriced. The ambiance and decor is very reminiscent of Maggios in Revere when I was growing up. Thanks for the memories.

How the mighty have fallen... This place used to be the mecca for local pizza. Sweet sauce, charred up crust, fast service, etc. These days, its a shallow version of the Sciortino's of 5 yrs ago, let alone the original incarnation in Perth Amboy. Its rare to find a waitress who cares enough to come back to your table more than once, which is a minor inconv in the grand scheme of things, but regardless... a nuisance. My biggest gripe is THE CRUST!! Gone are the old perth amboy days when it would be nice and charred, yet airy enough not to be flat or too doughy. Also gone are the days when harbor lights opened & it still managed to re-create these pies in the new oven. Whats left is a doughy/heavy crust that reminds me of the boboli crust pizzas that my mom used to let me make as a kid. What theyve been offering my last few times there has left me feeling like i just ate a mountain of chewy, nasty dough. Whatever cost saving measure youve now envoked, please reverse it! The only thing that saved this from being a one star review is their sauce. Its still stellar & sweet. At least that is still good.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
